Bought Another Aluminum-Rimmed BG Banjo…

Last week, someone traded in an Austin aluminum-rimmed (bottlecap) banjo at Music Makers in Farmington, MO…

I picked it up, picked on it and WHOOOOOOA!

That sucker was clean, clear and LOUD!

Cleaner, clearer and much LOUDER than my Oscar Schmidt bottlecap banjo…

I’ve had plans on  putting a new bridge, tailpiece, tuners and head on the Oscar Schmidt hoping to loud’n it up some…

The strange thing is, the Austin appears completely stock except for a hand-made bone nut…

So, with a standard tailpiece, REMO frosted head and the original tuners, it’s amazing to play and to hear…

It kind of nullifies my intentions of working on the Oscar Schmidt OB-5…

At least for now…

The OB-5 has a much slimmer neck, much lower profile…

The honkin’ hunk-of-a-neck on the Austin, however, does not impede my picking in any way, so I’m pretty darned excited about it…

I’ll have to write a song about it…

“Ode to a Bottlecap”…

Whaddayathink?
