I saw a post over on the Banjo Hangout a day or so ago in the “Off Topic” forum, i.e., ‘not about banjo’, and decided to respond… I like writing songs and poetic verse, so here’s another one! Since I can’t post over there anymore, I’m posting it here. If you happen to run into mike over there, let him know he’s got a ‘cornbread’ suggestion over here! Thanks… Tom

They ain’t no cornbread what I ain’t ate!
G C G
Drippin’ with butter and honey, too…
G D G
Cornbread, cornbread, I love you!
G C G
When I was little, I’d turn up my nose…
(G) A7 D
You’d have to beat me with a rubber hose…
G C G
My dad sure did, now I see the light…
G D G
I dream of cornbread every night!
G C G
Cut into squares in the cornbread pan…
(G) A7 D
Now I am a cornbread man…
G C G
My dog likes cornbread, the cow goes ‘Moo!”…
G D G
My pet ground hog likes it, too…
G C G
Don’t say I didn’t warn you the other day…
(G) A7 D
If you’ve got cornbread on your plate…
G C G
When you look the other way…
G D G
I’ll grab what’s yours and run a-way…
G C G
Mamma made cornbread and granny, too…
(G) A7 D
Sometimes we’d have it with home made stew…
G C G
Home made stew, yes, home made stew…
G D G
Washin’ down the cornbread with Mountain Dew!
G C G
I puff on a home made corn cob pipe…
(G) A7 D
If I have some cornbread, I won’t gripe…
G C G
Old log cabin, settin’ in the hills…
G D G
Dew’s in the jug, don’t let none spill!
G C G
Corn cob pipe and Mountain Dew…
(G) A7 D
Overalls and brown boots, too…
G C G
Big straw hat what’s on my head…
G D G
I shore love home made, buttered corn bread!
