I’ve got a young, 10 year old girl that’s been taking banjo lessons with me now for going on 3 years. You can’t put anything in front of this girl that she can’t play. She reads banjo tablature like a machine and is equally skilled at mandolin and guitar…
I had to come up with something new and different to challenge her, so I decided to work on “Rhythm Banjo” featuring “Inter-Chordal Walking Bass”… To that I eventually added playing back-up banjo via roll patterns.
The first time through in this arrangement, you’ll hear the banjo playing rhythm chords WITH inter-chordal chromatic, blues and diatonic walking bass. Following that, on the top staff, I’ve got the lead banjo playing back-up roll patterns. It’s interesting to hear the two styles working together… Tom (10/22/2019)
Have fun with this… Try it with a banjo-picking friend!
